come on get happy

I don't know if you all know, but I am a co-leader for the Boston LUNA Chix run team. Last night we had our first annual walk/run for fun. Of course after months and months of planning we woke up to some very nasty rain yesterday morning. It managed to clear up enough by mid-day so that we did not have to postpone.  I was unbelievably thrilled to see so many excited women show up for such a great event. If I had to guess, I'd say that we had about 80 people or so in attendance, not too shabby for the inaugural event! I'm hoping that corporate chooses to do this again next year so that we can continue to build and make this into a truly amazing event.

Anyway, due to my continued gimp-status I worked the check-in table, but I still had a great time. I really wish that I could have participated in the run (or hell, even the walk), but I was able to chat with one of my fellow Chix and eat (way too many) chocolate dipped coconut Luna bars, aka the food of the gods. I am not even kidding, these bars are like crack. If I can ever manage to find them in stores (and don't eat them all on the way home from the store) then maybe I'll do a giveaway one day. And you know what? There will be other runs, and there will definitely be more races. I know that I'll run again.

The best part of the evening was when a big group of us went to get some food from one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in the city. I love me some Border Cafe. The waiter was awesome and loved us even though we probably ate every single tortilla chip that they had in the joint. All I have to say is that I'm glad I was wearing stretchy pants. Mama had a big dinner.

At one point in the meal, my friend looked over at me and said something along the lines of: "You know, when I saw you a few weeks ago you were just so.. not yourself. Now you're smiling and laughing. It's nice to see you back to being.. you!" And you know what? I DO feel more like myself. I'm back to cracking inappropriate jokes and laughing at things that other people don't even find funny. I've even noticed a decreased amount of anger regarding my job and some co-workers. I feel more peaceful than I have in a long time and you know what? It feels really great.

I'm in a pretty good place both mentally AND physically. My stitches come out on Tuesday - FINALLY! They're itchy and annoying and I just want them gone. I've had two physical therapy appointments and Susana says that I look very stable with things like squats, lunges and balance work. We did some small jumps and I am still favoring my left (non-surgeried) side, which she did not seem all that concerned about. I've been given the stamp of approval to go for an outdoor bike ride tomorrow. There's a 5k race that I signed up for months ago and that's still up for discussion. At the very least, I'll be walking it with two of my fellow Chix, Danielle and Ashley.

Have a great weekend, all!
