i won't tell em your name

Let me start this blog entry by saying that I didn't sleep last night. Nope, not one wink. Instead I decided to watch three episodes of The Glee Project, the last of which left me a sobbing me. Don't judge me! I'm feeling sensitive and damnit, I'm going to blame it on the lack of sleep and other lady thangs. But watching that show made me think about music..

"Dude with a guitar" --

That's my response when someone asks me what type of music I prefer. And it all began with the Goo Goo Dolls. I remember sitting in my room listening to Name (on a tape, that I made from the radio, WHOA doggy, that was a long time ago) over and over again. Actually I switched between Name, I Will Do Anything for Love (MEATLOAF!), and The World I Know (Collective Soul, bitches). And then City of Angels came out and Iris was that song that you heard so much that it finally made you want to puke. But I never stopped listening to it.

Goo Goo Dolls performed at the first concert I ever attended, it was an all-day music festival. It was almost 100 degrees, and people were passing out from the heat. I refused to sit in the shade so I could get as close to the stage as possible when GGD (that's what all the REAL fans call them, obviously) started their set. Their music over the years has been.. well.. inconsistent at times. But every now and then they manage to release a song that just.. hits me. Case in point:

"I feel wrong,
I’m so human and flawed,
I break down even though I’m still strong,
And time, will make fools of us all,
Builds us up, and then laughs when we fall."
