a sad day.

I'm going to take a break from guest blog Tuesday for a bit of a more serious entry. Last night/early this morning, my uncle passed away. For over a year he had been battling from multiple myeloma, which is a cancer of the plasma cells. He had been doing quite well, was responding well to a bone marrow transplant until a case of pneumonia sent him to the hospital on June 4th. His immune system was very much weakened from chemotherapy and he was unfortunately unable to fight off the pneumonia. My uncle was a thoughtful, vibrant and loving man who was only in his early sixties. He will definitely be missed.

It's funny how last year I had never even heard of multiple myeloma, and I have a second cousin who is still fighting, and an uncle who has passed away because of it. After talking to friends, I know of at least three other people who have family and friends who have been diagnosed with this form of cancer. More people than you know are affected by this rare form of cancer.

Last year I fundraised and ran a 5k for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. I raised 500 dollars and have decided to try to surpass that amount this year. If anyone is interested in sponsoring me and donating to multiple myeloma, you can do so by going here. Any donation, and I mean ANY, is so very much appreciated.
