abc, it's easy as 123

I watched the National Spelling Bee on tv the other night. I'd like to think that I have a pretty expansive vocabulary, but I have to say that I hadn't heard of about 90% of the words given. The winning word was "Laodicean". As an noun it means a person who is lukewarm or indifferent, especially in religion. Yea, still never heard of it.

It reminded me of how when I was younger I had the brilliant idea to start a club with some of the girls in my neighborhood. We would meet in the cluhouse that was atop the swing set in my backyard. So every Sunday afternoon I would take my handy hardcover dictionary (wait, you mean it's not normal for a 9 year old to have one of those?), pencils, paper, and some Hawaiian Punch and head up to the clubhouse. The main activity consisted of me giving my friends spelling tests. Oh, did I mention that the only way to stay in the club was to get higher than an 80% right on the test?

Needless to say that my club didn't last more than a few weeks.

Kids these days just don't appreciate good spelling.

Ha! I would've tried to impeach you from your position of president because I was SURE I was the BEST SPELLER IN THE WORLD!
